One of my favorite historical places to visit is Philadelphia. It always amazes me in a hot summer, (much like the one we’re going through) in a cramped building,
with no air conditioning, men argued and worked out the Declaration of Independence. They worked it out for us – a priceless gift that many have given their lives for.
The last sentence of the Declaration of Independence says, ”For the support of this declaration, with a firm reliance upon the protection of the Divine Providence, we mutually pledge to each other, our lives, our fortunes, and our sacred honor.”
Our founding fathers knew the success of a nation needed to be grounded on a biblical foundation. We read God’s promise of blessing to nations in Deuteronomy 6 – if we fear the Lord, obey and follow Him, raise our families according to His Word – we’ll be blessed with a strong spiritual heritage. What makes America great is her values that begin in the home and church.
What a precious national and spiritual heritage we’ve been given. May we continue the work that’s begun and to preserve this unparalleled gift for generations to come!
